The Italian Phytopathological Society

The Italian Phytopathological Society (SIPaV), founded in 1992, after the termination of the Italian Society of Phytoiatry (SIF) and the Italian Phytopathological Association (AFI) pursues the following main objectives:

  •  promotion of studies and researches related to the different aspects and sectors of plant pathology;
  • spread of knowledge related to plant diseases and their causes;
  • promotion of collaboration and exchanges among plant pathologists as well as interdisciplinary relationships in the field of basic and applied research.
In order to reach such objectives, the Society organizes Congresses, Meetings, Courses, collects and spreads information related to plant diseases, keeps connections with other National and International Scientific Organizations as well as with technical bodies at Ministerial and Regional level, as well as with other Agencies on issues related to plant diseases.

The Society publishes, in English, its own Journal, titled Journal of Plant Pathology, and uses different tools (e-mail, social media) to spread information among its Members.

In particular, SIPaV organizes yearly its Congress, which also represents the seat to hold the Member’s General Assembly. SIPaV tries to favour the participation to its activity as well as the internationalization of young phytopathologists, by offering contributes for the participation to Congresses, the preparation of the thesis in plant pathology abroad as well as prizes for the best PhD theses.

SIPaV is affiliated to the Italian Association of Agricultural Scientific Societies (AISSA), the International Society for Plant Pathology (ISPP), the European Foundation for Plant Pathology (EFPP), the Mediterranean Phytopathological Union (MPU) and the Italian Federation of Life Sciences (FISV).
