Abstract:
Professor Marco Bisiach passed away unexpectedly on 10 November 2012. He was born in Varese in 1939 and, after studying science in high school, he graduated in Agri- cultural Science from the University of Milano in 1966, majoring in Plant Pathology. After graduation he continued working in the Institute of Plant Pathology of the same University, first on a voluntary basis, then as a researcher and fellow of the National Re- search Council. In 1968, he won a national competition, was appointed technical inspector in agriculture and assigned to the Italian Ministry of Agriculture in Milano. The strong attraction for research and teaching, however, led Marco to continue his voluntary activity in the Institute of Plant Pathology until 1969, when he was appointed lecturer in the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Milano. Since then, he never ceased devoting himself to research and teaching. He was appointed Assistant professor (1971-1983), then Associate professor of Plant Disease Management (1983). He was elected to the Board of Trustees of the University of Milano (1983-1986), where he participated in the drafting of the constitution of the University.
